SALISBURY — A Kannapolis man charged last week with touching a 15-year-old girl inappropriately while at Ramba Tropicana in Landis is now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.

Rene Vasquez Perez, 31, of 1331 Sloop Ave., was charged Aug. 2 with indecent liberties by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and placed in the county jail.

Perez was scheduled to be present in district court Wednesday morning.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Suneson told Judge Kevin Eddinger that Perez was in ICE custody.

Sheriff’s Officials confirmed Wednesday afternoon Perez was picked up by immigration officials.

Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance at the club, located at 1104 S. Chapel St., Landis, about 1:15 a.m. on July 31 after a 15-year-old girl said Perez touched her inappropriately.

China Grove Police detained Perez after the incident because he grabbed the girl at the club, causing an uproar.
