Two more candidates filed this week for the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education.

Both filed for the north district seat now held by Karen South Carpenter, who is not running for re-election.

Richard Wayne Miller, 61, of 480 Beck Road, Salisbury, filed Wednesday. He is the deputy executive director for the N.C. Association of Educators.

R. Craig Pierce, 55, of 111 St. Johns Drive, Salisbury, filed Friday. He owns Pierce Interiors and Construction.

As of Friday, seven candidates have filed for four seats up for election. The others are incumbent Kay Wright Norman and Eric Trail for the west district seat; Mike Caskey and Troy Rushing in the south district; and incumbent Jean Kennedy for the special seat.

Patty Williams now holds the south district seat and has also said she won’t run for re-election.

Filing for the school board continues through Aug. 13 at noon. The filing fee is $5.

Poll
What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
