R3 Center offers career workshops, resumé clinics

The R3 Center is offering career development workshops and resumé clinics in August for adults in Cabarrus and Rowan counties. All of the programs are provided free-of-charge.

Now located at 200 West Ave., in Kannapolis, the R3 Center is a career development center established by Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) to assist displaced workers; those who are unemployed or under-employed.

The center’s August schedule of workshops includes the following sessions. Due to the popularity of its free sessions, the R3 Center strongly encourages clients to call in advance at 704-216-7201, and reserve a seat. Call also for specific workshop locations.

• New Client Launch — 9 a.m. on Aug. 2, 4, 18, 23, 25 and 30; and 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 2, 9, 23 and 30. New Client Launch is an orientation program for persons who have never attended an R3 Center workshop or taken advantage of its other services.

• Healthcare Career Pathways — 10 a.m. on Aug. 5, and 2 p.m. on Aug. 19. This is a new workshop for people wanting to pursue a career as a medical paraprofessional.

• Identifying Your Career Options— 6 p.m. on Aug. 6 and 27; and 10 a.m. on Aug. 7, 14 and 21.

• Is It Time for More Training? — 10 a.m. on Aug. 4 and 20, and 2 p.m. on Aug. 12, and 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 23;

• It’s Not Who You Know; It’s Who You Meet — 2 p.m. on Aug. 3.

• Interview Techniques — 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 2, and 10 a.m. on Aug. 25.

• Letter Writing for the Job Seeker — 10 a.m. on Aug. 6.

• Stand Out from the Competition — 2 p.m. on Aug. 4 and 25, and 10 a.m. on Aug. 20.

• Looking for Work at 50+ — 6 p.m. on Aug. 3, and 2 p.m. on Aug. 24.

• Looking for Work with a Criminal Record — 10 a.m. on Aug. 18.

• Online Job Hunting — 2 p.m. on Aug. 18.

• Workforce Boot Camp — 9 p.m. on Aug. 31. Designed for recent RCCC graduates, this workshop covers critical work search issues, such as resume-writing, interviewing and standing out from the masses.

• Job Seeking for Veterans — 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 9

The R3 Center also will offer multiple resume clinics to help job searchers improve their current resume or create a new one from start to finish. Please call to reserve a seat. The resume clinics are scheduled for: 2 p.m. on Aug. 5; 9 a.m. on Aug. 14; and 10 a.m. on Aug

. 19 and 24.

The R3 Center helps adult workers assess their skills, aptitudes, training and academic credentials, and future career interests to develop an action plan for career growth. All R3 Center services are provided free-of-charge. The center’s normal office hours are: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
