Three new programs to be offered at Davie Campus of DCCC

Fall semester enrollment at Davidson County Community College, including entry into three new programs to be offered on the Davie Campus, remains open to new students.

Applications and other admission documents should be completed and turned in by July 22 for students to begin fall classes on Aug. 17. Students applying after that date will be eligible to enroll in second eight-week courses which begin in October.

Students seeking financial aid for the fall semester must complete the 2010-11 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by July 1. Students may apply for financial aid after July 1, but their awards will be delayed.

In addition, newly admitted students must complete a required orientation session during which they are introduced to the campus, take tours, get information they need to buy books and supplies and meet instructors and advisers. The orientation must be completed by July 25.

Three programs will be offered for the first time this fall on the Davie Campus in Mocksville. Students will be able to complete the Associate in Applied Science degree in business administration and computer information technology, as well as a diploma program in accounting.

In addition to a two-year degree program in computer information technology, students may earn the CIT diploma and certificate, as well as related certificates in applications specialist and PC technician.

Graduates with the AAS degree in CIT may pursue careers in information technology in a range of industries including PC repair, hardware/software support, computer assembly, computer network support and administrative support. Graduates may also seek front-line careers in software and computer retail, technology instruction and banking.

Students will learn to create websites and use online resources for research and communication. Hands-on training is offered in network cable assembly, PC repair, assembly and troubleshooting. Students learn various methods to secure information through software and hardware devices.

The two-year business administration degree program provides students a business education base with fundamental knowledge in the areas of business functions and processes as well as an understanding of business organizations in today’s global economy.

Students earning a diploma in accounting will have a background in accounting principles, taxes, bookkeeping and accounting software applications. They should qualify for entry-level accounting positions.

Instruction for the new programs will be delivered in a variety of ways including face-to-face in the traditional classroom, online, hybrid (a combination of face-to-face and online) and through video conferencing which consists of two or more sections of the same course being taught at the same time by the same instruction with students participating at different locations.

Other college credit programs available in Davie include Associate in Arts (college transfer), Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Operations, histotechnology, phlebotomy, practical nurse education and truck driver training.
