Chances are, if you know a member of Boy Scout Troop 328, and have a vehicle, you helped make it happen.

On Saturday, April 3, under the leadership of Scout Master Lewis Safrit, 20 boys washed and rinsed their way to earning more than $800. The event, held at Gerry Wood Kia on Jake Alexander Boulevard, was to raise money toward the Boy Scout Summer Camp Program, and they earned over half the overall objective in five hours.

"The children did all the work," said Courtney Wood, the event's organizer. "Gerry Wood Auto Group just provided the location, supplies and a little organization."

Participating in the event were Jerry Lippard, Jim Barringer, Matt Campbell, Joshua Jones, Kyle Braswell, Austin Wright, Justin Carter, Cody Kepley, Cameron Rayfield, Bailey Rayfield, Tyler Peacock, Austin Peacock, JP Barringer, Tyler Waller, Logan Overcash, Lucas Safrit, Cameron Barringer, Bryson Bower, Edson Baude and Calib Lippard.

"Gerry Wood Auto Group will repeat this fundraiser with other organizations and causes on Saturdays throughout the season. Because we think it is a great way to help worthy organizations help themselves and we all really had fun doing it," Brad Wood, general manager, said.

Moose Pharmacy will dispose of old drugs

MT. PLEASANT — Moose Pharmacy is offering a program to help patients safely dispose of medicines that may be dangerous to others and to the environment.

"As members of the community, pharmacists are in a prime position to ensure the safe and proper handling of medications, from dispensing to disposal," said Whit Moose, of Moose Pharmacy of Mt. Pleasant. "Unused or expired medications pose risks to our families, communities and the environment. We welcome all in the community to come and talk to our pharmacists about their prescriptions and how to store, use and dispose of them properly."

Moose Pharmacy has locations in Mt. Pleasant, Concord, Midland and Salisbury. It is a member of the National Community Pharmacists Association, which launched the Protect Your Pharmacy Now! Prescription Drug Disposal program to help consumers dispose of unused medicine.

"The environmental impacts are important too," Moose explained. "Moose Pharmacy is taking steps to reduce our environmental impact. This program is part of Moose Pharmacy's overall effort to reduce our carbon footprint and increase our green business practices."

Patients of any pharmacy are invited to bring unused and expired medications in their original stock containers to any Moose Pharmacy location. Moose Pharmacy will dispose of the drugs using the Sharps TakeAway Environmental Return System.

What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
