Person dead after car hits motorcycle

One person died Friday evening after a car hit a motorcycle in western Rowan County.

Emergency responders called for a helicopter after a car struck a motorcycle around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of N.C. 801 and Bear Poplar Road.

They canceled the flight around 7:50 p.m.

A Rowan County Emergency Services dispatcher confirmed the accident was fatal.

The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

N.C. 801 was closed for more than an hour.
