Staff report

Thieves hit a Salisbury home recently, taking more than $21,000 worth of property.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office is investigating a break-in at the home of Kathy Ann Cooksey, 1013 Journey Lane. The break-in occurred on March 11 between 6:15 a.m. and 4:34 p.m.

According to the report, the thief took $20,000 worth of assorted jewelry, a 52-inch Samsung flat screen TV, a Dell computer and a wooden jewelry box.

Other reports or charges from the Sheriff's Office:

- Four guns were stolen from the Delma Goodman Smith residence at 3425 Daugherty Road, China Grove.

The theft occurred between 10 a.m. and noon on March 11.

Guns taken included a Marlin .30-.30 rifle with a scope; a Marlin .22 rifle with scope; a Wards .22 rifle with scope; a Remington 12-gauge shotgun.

- Bill Earnhardt, 620 Liberty Road, Gold Hill, reported the theft of a Trane heat pump from a house at 714 China Grove Highway, Rockwell.

- A 1996 Pontiac which had been reported stolen was found on Potneck Road on March 12.

- Suspects were caught selling and buying drugs on school grounds at Southeast Middle School, 1570 Peeler Road.

- Jeff L. Moore reported the theft of a Rossi .357 magnum handgun from his residence at 175 Lockshire Lane, Woodleaf. A cell phone and $205 in cash was also taken.

- Gary Dean Deal, 1032 Highland Woods Drive, Kannapolis, reported the theft of a Rossi .38 revolver valued at $150. The theft occurred between Feb. 25 and March 5.

- Deputies seized two handguns from a residence on Grandeur Drive related to a person communicating threats.

- Richard James Cooley, 119 Cooley Farm Road, Woodleaf, reported the theft of prescription medication, $250 in cash, two Iver Johnson shotguns and a .45 semi-automatic pistol. Total value of items taken was put at $1,900.

The thief entered through a window on March 14.

- The Rowan County Landfill reported the theft of scrap metal from the landfill at 789 Campbell Road, Woodleaf.

- Dewthay Walker was charged with felony assault by strangulation.

- Patricia Gunn Sibert, 4415 Bringle Ferry Road, reported the theft of four chrome wheels and tires valued at $2,500.
