Ellis gets Homeland Security grant

U.S. Sen. Kay R. Hagan (D-NC) today announced that North Carolina fire departments will receive a total of $1,380,722 from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG).

Ellis Cross Country Fire Department will receive $107,683.

The AFG funds can be used to pay for training, equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.

"Today, I am pleased to announce that 14 different fire departments in North Carolina will receive more than $1 million dollars for operations and safety," said Hagan.

"These grants are particularly important in smaller communities with budget crunches, and will go a long way toward ensuring our first responders have the tools they need to protect our North Carolina families. Our first responders, many of them volunteers, sacrifice so much to keep our communities safe. We must do our part to help them acquire the best equipment and facilities."
