CONCORD — Police say a fugitive about to be profiled on "America's Most Wanted" was arrested Friday afternoon at the Carolina Mall.

Concord Police Department officers arrested Albert James Turner Jr., 44, around 12:30 p.m. after getting tips from local residents who saw him on TV earlier in the day in a promotion for the show.

Authorities had been looking for Turner, a former Texas prison guard, since Dec. 27, when his 39-year-old wife, Keitha Turner, and 66-year-old mother-in-law Betty Joe Frank were found stabbed to death at Frank's home in Rosenberg, Texas, a Houston suburb.

Investigators say the women had been stabbed to death in front of at least two of the Turners' children.

The U.S. Marshals Service added Turner to its 15 Most Wanted list last week.

A spot featuring Turner aired Friday morning on "Live with Regis and Kelly" as John Walsh, host of FOX's "America's Most Wanted," appeared to promote the show's 1,000th episode, scheduled to air at 9 p.m. tonight.

A press release from the Concord Police Department said local residents who watched the TV show "recognized the person profiled as a person they knew from contact with him here in Concord."

When confronted by officers inside the mall near the Concord-Kannapolis city limits, the press release said, "Turner was cooperative and gave officers no trouble while detaining him." After taking the man into custody, police positively identified him as Turner through fingerprint comparison.

Concord police turned Turner over to the U.S. Marshals Service.

"Thanks to 'America's Most Wanted' and a viewer tip, Turner will now get a different perspective of what it is like to be in a prison," John F. Clark, director of the U.S. Marshals Service, said in a press release. "The fact that he committed horrible crimes in front of his children makes his capture even more satisfying."

What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
