Daughters of the American Revolution selects three Good Citizen winners

The Elizabeth Maxwell Steele Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has named three Good Citizen Award winners for 2009-2010.

Brynne Nicole Lippard, Taylor Scott Johnston and Catherine Grace Parks were selected for exemplifying the characteristics of dependability, leadership, service and patriotism.

The daughter of Mike and Julie Lippard, Brynne is a senior at East Rowan High School. A member of the National Honor Society, she has served as a class officer for three years and is vice president of the student body. Brynne has achieved the academic honor for four years and is a student member of the Advisory Committee.

A member of Junior Civitan Club and Future Business Leaders of America, Brynne volunteers at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord, Abundant Living Adult Daycare, ARC, Samaritan's Purse and Meals on Wheels.

She is active in her church, Grace Bible Church, and at Rowan Helping Ministries. She plans to major in business at a four-year college.

Taylor is the son of David and Teresa Johnston and a senior at North Rowan High School. Vice president of the National Honor Society and valedictorian of his graduating class, Taylor has been designated a North Carolina Scholar Athlete for four years.

He enjoys baseball, cross country, wrestling and golf and is a self-taught pianist and guitarist. A member of SGA, Key Club, National Honor Society, Junior Civitan and Youth Christian International, he volunteers with ARC of Rowan and served as an elder and lector at Spencer Presbyterian Church.

Taylor has been accepted at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he will major in biomedical engineering.

Catherine is the daughter of Charles and Lynne Parks and a senior at Salisbury High School. Vice president of the National Honor Society and a North Carolina Scholar Athlete, she achieved the A honor roll throughout high school.

She is president of the Key Club and Spanish Club and secretary of FBLA and Political Science clubs. Catherine is a member of the Math Team and Junior Civitan Club. She received a U.S. History Award from the Veterans Council and served as a junior marshal.

A captain of the Women's Golf Team, she volunteers as an instructor during the summer for Children's Golf Camp at the Dana Rader Golf School. She is an intern at C.F. Parks and Co.
