Staff report

A couple already in jail facing drug charges are now charged with contributing to the delinquency of juveniles — their children.

On Tuesday, the Rowan County Sheriff's Office searched a home at 1035 Hard Scrabble Court, Cleveland, seizing marijuana and more than $8,000 in cash.

They charged Nolan Quennel Barber, 27, and Cindy Alanna Locklear, 27, with multiple drug charges.

Capt. John Sifford said officers found some of the marijuana in and around the children's toys and books.

Officers contacted the Rowan County Department of Social Services, which put the children, ages 3 and 6, in the custody of the paternal grandmother.

Barber and Locklear were each charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile — one for each child. Their bonds were increased by $2,500.

Poll
What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
