VA to host Black History Month celebration

The Hefner VA Medical Center is celebrating Black History Month with a Friday program, "The History of Black Economic Empowerment."

The event will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Social Room, Building No. 6. This year's celebration will feature Matthew Lewis, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photographer, as the keynote speaker.

Lewis has photographed notable personalities and dignitaries that include Ethel Waters, Roberta Flack, Lena Horne, Lana Turner, Martin Luther King, Thurgood Marshall and John Lennon.

He covered the funeral of John F. Kennedy, the 1963 March on Washington and the 1964 National Democratic Convention in Atlantic City.

Special parking will be available in front of Building No. 6 also light refreshments will be served immediately following the program.
