Several people have been taken to the hospital after a head-on collision in the 1500 block of Jake Alexander Boulevard.
Emergency medical workers say none of the injuries appears to be life-threatening.
According to emergency radio communications, a 23-year-old woman driving one car has injuries to her right leg and ankle. A 47-year-old woman driving the other car and her 26-year-old son were also taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Initial calls indicated a woman was entrapped in her car.
The wreck, in the westbound lanes of Jake Alexander Boulevard, caused traffic to back up. Authorities diverted drivers heading west toward Statesville Boulevard onto Industrial Drive.
