U.S. Sen. Kay R. Hagan, D-N.C., today announced that the Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury has received $5.7 million for building renovations.

The funds were part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also known as the stimulus package.

"The stimulus funds will be used to repair elevators, pipes and heating and air conditioning systems, which will boost the economy in the Central Piedmont while ensuring that we honor our commitment to our veterans," Hagan said in a press release.

"This is a crucial investment in a facility that serves more than 280,000 veterans in 23 North Carolina counties. The upkeep associated with such a busy facility can be overwhelming, and this federal investment will help relieve financial strain on the center.

"We owe our veterans a debt of gratitude, and one way we can work toward repaying that debt is by providing first-class health care at our VA health facilities."

Medical Center Director Carolyn Adams added, "this funding provides an important economic boost for our community and allows the facility to complete many energy saving initiatives."

What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
