Background: Born and raised in the Dixonville area.

Education: Graduated from Salisbury High, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College certified in welding and metallurgy. Courses with the city for diversity/conflict resolution training.

Career path/boards: Wolverine Proctor & Schwartz Inc. (Lexington), McGuire Nuclear Power Plant. Human Relations Council-vice chairman (six years ), Zoning Board of Adjustments, Neighborhood Appearance Commission, Salisbury-Rowan NAACP, trustee board at First Calvary Baptist, One Church One Child, Community Child Protective Board.

Family: Is one of 15 children. Has one son, Channing C. Peoples.

Role models: Grandmother Laura Castle who encouraged him to get an education, always do the best you can, trust in the Lord and treat people like you want to be treated.

A quote you live by: "Do the best you can and try to be honest and truthful."

What legacy do you want to leave behind: "That I was someone who tried to make a difference."

What does Barack Obama's win as the nation's first African-American president signify for you: "That black people can achieve. We are just as smart and intelligent as any other race of people. It's something I'm proud of because of our history in this country — what we endured. It's kind of the cream rising to the top. It also says that with proper credentials and education, the sky is the limit. He has raised the bar for young Americans to reach for the stars and don't take no for an answer."
