Rufty-Holmes Senior Center will host its annual African-American History Breakfast on Friday beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the center.
The program speaker will be Audrey Kates Bailey, retired director of public relations for the N.C. Community College system, and former commentator for PBS’ “North Carolina Now” broadcast.
Cost for the buffet breakfast is $6 per person at the door, but reservations are requested by calling the Center at 704-216-7714 by Wednesday at noon. Sponsors assisting with the event are Hairston Funeral Home and the J.P. Johnson Memorial Society.
The center has hosted the breakfast since 1994 when first suggested by the late Salisbury Mayor Wiley Lash who was a member of Rufty-Holmes’ Board of Directors. Each year, older adults have gathered to learn, acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of black Americans on the national, state and local levels.
