Mayor Susan Kluttz attended the kickoff for Catholic Schools Week (Jan. 31-Feb. 5) at Sacred Heart Catholic School. Originally scheduled for Feb. 1, the ceremony was held later due to bad weather.
Kluttz read the Catholic School Week Proclamation.
Catholic Schools Week is a time to honor the mission of Catholic schools and to celebrate what they provide for students, the church, and the community.
The theme for this year's celebration was "Dividends For Life." Each day, students and staff celebrated service in the parish, in the community, in the students, in the nation, in vocations and in the faculty, staff and volunteers.
Many special events and activities took place during the week. Under the guidance of Sister Mary Robert Williams, students brought in items for Operation Suitcase. The donations were sent to Haiti to help earthquake victims.
Military personnel were honored at a flag ceremony presented by the Salisbury High School ROTC. Students and staff invited veterans' family members/close friends to the ceremony and then honored them with a special reception sponsored by the PTO.
Students learned about different vocations from the Rev. John Putnam, Dr. James Mazur and Sister Mary Robert Williams.
Other activities including an essay contest, a quiz bowl, and a pep rally.
The week concluded with Senior Night at the home basketball quadruple header.
