Continuing education courses in Davie County

Davidson County Community College will offer the following continuing education classes on the Davie Campus and at the Davie Education Center. For a complete course listing, refer to www.davidsonccc.edu then click on the link for continuing education. Refer to the CID number when registering for a class.

Building Level I Standard Inspection — CID 28189. This course is for the Building Level I official who inspects residential and small construction up to 20,000 square feet Textbooks are required.

March 2-11, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Davie Campus, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. 48 hours.

Managing Your Finances in Turbulent Times — CID 28107. Students will develop and implement personal plans of action enabling them to pursue financial objectives. Topics covered include financial planning, credit and borrowing fundamentals and analysis of savings.

March 6-27, Tuesday, Davie Education Center, 6-8 p.m. 8 hours.

Facebook & the Workplace (Lunch & Learn) — CID 28108. How can Facebook affect your job? What risks are associated with linking accounts to an application? Are there rules of etiquette that need to be respected? Join others during this informative lunch and learn discussion.

March 7, Wednesday, Davie Education Center, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. 1.5 hours.

Undaunted Heart: True Story of a Southern Belle andYankeeGeneral (Lunch & Learn) — CID 28414. Author Suzy Barile discusses the research and writing of her award-winning book. Hear how a packet of letters and a couple of passed-down family stories led to the piecing together of information for this non-fiction work. Learn how what’s in your family archives can lead to your writing of rich stories.

March 16, Friday, Davie Campus, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. 1.5 hours.

Researching Fiction & Non-Fiction — CID 28109. Worried you can’t find the facts you want to use in your next historical fiction or non-fiction book? Learn how to wade through the offerings available to make your writing as accurate as you would like. Writer and journalist Suzy Barile takes you through the process.

March 17, Saturday, Davie Campus, 9 a.m.-noon, 3 hours.

Effective Teacher Training (Hybrid) — CID 28275. The focus will be on developing the skills and materials needed to substitute teach in the Davie County Schools system, an overview of local/federal procedures, training on the technology available in the district, and introduction to school level staff and expectations while substitute teaching.

March 26-April 16, Monday, William Ellis Middle School/Online, 5:30-8:30 p.m. 30 hours. Textbook, optional, approximately $30.

Notary — CID 26926. This course meets state requirements for certification as a notary public. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. A convicted felon is not eligible to obtain a notary license in North Carolina. The textbook is required.

March 26 and 28, Monday and Wednesday, Davie Campus, 6-9 p.m., 6 hours.

Debt Control — CID 28415. This course will first determine the financial status of a family using a fictional budget and determine actions needed to improve the current financial status. Students will build a line item budget for the fictional family, then take this budget and develop a savings plan, a plan for anticipated purchases and unexpected expenditures. As part of this expansion, the use of credit and, in particular the use of credit cards, will be considered.

March 27-April 26, Tuesday and Thursday, Davie Campus, 7-8:30 p.m. 15 hours. Requirement: USB drive.

MS Word 2010 Intermediate (Hybrid) — CID 27395. This course will offer an inventory of Microsoft Word applications/shortcuts designed for an intermediate level student. Topics covered include tables, newsletter columns, WordArt and clip art, document themes, styles, picture editing, footnotes and endnotes, templates, and more.

March 29-May 10, Thursday, Davie Education Center, 5:30-7:30 p.m. 24 hours

Kudzu Basket Weaving —CID 26956. Cherokee Indians enjoyed the benefits of the Kudzu vine beyond its initial use for erosion control. Each vine has a distinct “personality” and will yield a unique finished product.

March 29, Thursday, 1-4 p.m., 3 hours, Davie Campus.

CID 25958, March 29, Thursday, 6-9 p.m., 3 hours, Davie Campus.

Workplace Computer Skills — Building on basic computer skills, this course prepares students for the technological demands of the current workplace. Students will learn how to create resumes, apply for jobs and function in a working environment where computers and similar technologies are in use. Useful for students who have a basic understanding of computers and want to refresh their skills. Fee waiver is available for those who qualify. Truck Driver Training Refresher Course — This 40-hour course is designed for those who have a Class A license but are in need of current driving time to satisfy the requirements of employers. For more information, contact Scott Gantt at 336-751-2885 or by email at rsgantt@davidsonccc.edu.

Welding: MIG & TIG — Topics to be covered include safety, machine set-up, current control, gas and pressure control, techniques for welding in various positions with different types of metal, weld penetration and various shop projects. Fee waivers available for those who qualify.
