YMCA taking registration for lifeguarding classes

The Saleeby-Fisher YMCA, East Rowan Branch, is now taking registration for Lifeguarding. Classes will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5–9 p.m., from March 6-29 and April 17-May 10.

Participants must successfully complete a prerequisite swim test, attend all scheduled classes and show competency in skills and knowledge in order to receive certification, which is provided by the American Red Cross for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED. The cost is $190 for YMCA members and $220 for potential members.

Swim Lesson registration begins Feb. 27. Space is limited so sign up early. New for adults this year are the Adult Swim Clinics which are an opportunity to refine strokes, work on rhythmic breathing and endurance or help to get over fear of the water.

Clinic dates are May 12, Sept 15, and Nov. 17, from 10-11 a.m. Cost is $20 for members and $40 for nonmembers.

Also new for 8th- through 12th-graders are Advanced Swim Classes. These are swim lessons that work on getting each participant ready to swim competitively. Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15– 5 p.m. Cost is $20 for members and $40 for nonmembers.
