KANNAPOLIS — Todd Adams will seek a second term on the Board of Education for the Kannapolis City school district.

The 43-year-old incumbent filed for re-election during the first day of filing Monday.

“These last four years have flown by,” he said. “Meeting so many people that make a difference in our children’s lives and learning how our education system works has been very rewarding.”

Adams, who has three children who attend Kannapolis schools, said he thinks it’s important to have a parent’s voice on the board.

“We have faced the same funding cuts as all other North Carolina school system. This has forced us to make a lot of tough decisions,” he said. “Having children in the school system, I have always kept the education of our children as the most important factor when making these decisions.”

Making sure the district provides the “best classroom experience” is Adams’ top priority.

He would also like to see the system’s plan to build a new intermediate school come to fruition, “as funding becomes available”

“We already have the land ready to go for that,” he said. “And it would be near our middle school so we would be able to share some services so the students would have a better experience.”

Adams beat out longtime school board member Lee Efird, who served 16 years, for the lone Rowan County seat on the board in 2008.

The Kannapolis school board is made up of four Cabarrus County seats and one Rowan spot.

Incumbent Charles Mitchell also filed Monday for one of two open Cabarrus slots on the board.
