Financial aid staff from Davidson County Community College (DCCC) will help potential college students complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on Saturday, Feb. 18 during the annual FAFSA Day event.
DCCC’s FAFSA Day will take place from 9 a.m. until noon in the Learning Resources Center (library) on the Davidson campus. Completing the FAFSA form is a requirement to be considered for all federal and most state and local institutional grants and scholarships. Pre-registration for FAFSA Day is encouraged and may be completed online by visiting CFNC.org/FAFSAday or by calling 1-866-866-CFNC (2362) toll-free.
Students and their parents who have already filed their 2011 federal taxes may use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool during the application process to transfer tax information directly onto their FAFSA. Those who have not yet filed their taxes or only recently filed may bring copies of their 2011 federal taxes and W-2 forms or estimate their income and use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to submit FAFSA corrections at a later date.
In addition, students and at least one parent should bring their personal identification numbers (PINs) obtained in advance from the U.S. Department of Education website, www.pin.ed.gov to electronically sign and submit their FAFSA for processing.
“We hope our potential students will complete their FAFSAs early so they may take full advantage of financial aid opportunities,” said Dr. Kim Sepich, vice president of student affairs at DCCC. “We will have staff members at FAFSA Day to help them complete and file the FAFSA form in advance of our deadline.”
Those unable to attend FASFA Day or who have questions prior to completion of the FAFSA form may take advantage of the free FAFSA Phone-In call service offered Tuesday evenings in February. Financial aid specialists across North Carolina will be available to answer specific FAFSA questions on the toll-free number, 1-866-866-CFNC (2362), between 5 and 8 p.m.
During the DCCC event, participants will also have the opportunity to speak to a DCCC enrollment counselor about DCCC’s programs and admissions. For more information, call Yvette Canty, a DCCC financial aid counselor, at 336-249-8186, extension 6389, or email her at ycanty@davidsonccc.edu
