The West Rowan Lunch Club (Senior Citizen’s Meal Site) will celebrate Black History Month with a special program, on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The Program leader will be Vickie Gray from Livingstone College, along with students from the college.
Other programs during the month will include a craft workshop led by Norma Barber, bingo games on Thursdays, and hymn singing on Fridays led by the Rev. Shirley Jones.
Recent programs included a special presentation on “Your Life Legacy,” by Patricia Ricks, coordinated by Thomasina Page from Rufty Holmes Senior Center; and a Martin Luther King observance program on Feb. 17, with the Rev. George Goodman as speaker. The Rev. Goodman shared a historical reflection on the significance and work of Dr. Martin Luther King and an inspirational presentation on “love.”
The lunch club, for senior citizens, meets at Third Creek A. M. E. Zion Church, Cleveland, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily and welcomes participation of all older adults in the surrounding community.
Regular and Upcoming activities during February will also include a monthly visit from the Rowan Public Library bookmobile, free blood pressures by Judy Keply from Abundant Living and presentations coordinated by Rufty-Holmes representatives and area health professionals and agencies that provide services for senior citizens.
For reservations and more information on participation, transportation, programs or services, contact Louise Brown, site director, at 704-278-.-2581.
