CNA class

KANNAPOLIS — Certified Nursing Assistant I classes begin Monday, Feb. 13, 9 a.m.-noon and 6-9 p.m. at New Careers Learning Center. The three-week course will be held at 510 Old Centergrove Road at Marable Memorial Plaza.

Flapjack Fundraiser

Jesse Carson High School is hosting a Flapjack Fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 4 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Applebee's located at 205 Faith Road, Salisbury.

All proceeds raised will go toward its student trip to China in June. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door or by calling 704-591-9878.

Shady Brookreading night

Shady Brook Elementary School will hold a family night at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 9 for parents interested in receiving tips and information about standardized testing.

Pizza and refreshments will be served and childcare assistance will be available on site.

The presenter, Beverly White Roberts, has served as the Project Director for the North Carolina Parental Information and Resource Center for the past 11 years.

She has provided technical assistance to schools that are in school improvement.

Roberts will share strategies that are associated with student achievement to increase effective parent involvement.

She is a certified parent educator, and conducts workshops across the state on topics related to education, parent engagement, and parent/professional collaboration.

Roberts previously worked as the Outreach Coordinator for the Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) assisting parents of children with special needs in advocating for their children.

The event is open to all parents of Shady Brook students, but specifically targeted for second through fourth grade parents.

Science and math program

For the fifth consecutive year, a summer program will be offered to students entering grades seven, eight or nine who live in Rowan County and are interested in advanced study in science and math. The program will take place during July at Salisbury High School.

To get information about the summer program, parents and students may attend a presentation and question-and-answer session on either Thursday at 7 p.m., or Sunday at 4 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the auditorium at Salisbury High School. Applications for admission to the program will be available to parents at both informational sessions and in the main office at Salisbury High School.
