National Signing Day: No action in Rowan

KANNAPOLIS — It was National Signing Day Wednesday and West Rowan football coach Scott Young didn’t know what to do with himself.

For the first time in 11 years, West Rowan didn’t have someone signing.

And neither did anyone else in Rowan County.

The only area signings Wednesday were in Kannapolis, where Damien Washington led a group of five Wonders inking scholarships. The star running back is headed for Chapel Hill and North Carolina.

Other Wonder signers — defensive lineman Gerald Holt (Liberty), center Hunter Morris (The Citadel), safety Kaleel Hollis (Lenoir-Rhyne) and defensive lineman Darius Rice (Coffeyville Community College).

Davie’s Adam Smith is headed to Guilford.

Young did say he expects a signing on Thursday morming. His star receiver Jarvis Morgan is expected to go to Winston-Salem State.
