For the Salisbury Post
Has retirement been all you hoped for?
That one was so easy, I thought it was a trick question. I retired when I was 45 and I wish I could have done it when I was 25. I love it!
What lessons have you learned?
If anyone is fixin' to retire soon, I can share this with them. You will find out there is a whole lot of non-driving people out and about keeping the roads hot. They don't understand what the left lane is for, how to maneuver at a four-way stop or when to hang their handicap card. But the biggest thing to be on the lookout for is them fools that can't comprehend the turning right on red rule. About 11 out of 9 idiots must think it's a law you have to turn right, regardless, even if the person with the green light is halfway through the intersection. What do you know now that you wish you'd known before retiring?
1. That Memories 1280 is probably the best AM radio station in North Carolina.
2. That Dan Nicholas Park has two very good walking trails and Eagle Point Nature Preserve is Rowan County's best kept secret, without a doubt.
3. That Morrow Mountain State Park is not as far away as I thought, and finally, that you can't get caught up.
