Law enforcement: 30 years-plus with the Rowan County Sheriff's Office; retired in 2008 as lieutenant in charge of the courthouse security and bailiffs; member board of directors of the N.C. Law Enforcement Officers Association.
Role as sheriff: Protect lives and property of citizens of Rowan County, "If person violates law they should be arrested. It's simple, I've done it."
Political Experience: won election 7 times as East Spencer Alderman, total of 28 years; twice mayor pro tem.
