Course on starting a small business

The Small Business Center (SBC) at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is offering an in-depth course that gives entrepreneurs step-by-step instructions on how to start a small business.

The class, “Starting a Business — From Concept to Launch,” begins Monday, Feb. 13 and continues each Monday through April 16. The 22.5-hour course will help participants identify their strengths as an entrepreneur, assess the feasibility of their business idea, and examine important factors, such as start-up costs, effective marketing techniques, legal considerations, funding and others.

The class will meet from 6-8:30 p.m. on Mondays at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s Cabarrus Business & Technology Center, 660 Concord Parkway N. in Concord. Tuition is $65.

“Starting a Business — From Concept to Launch” aims to help entrepreneurs gain the knowledge and confidence needed to launch their dream business. To register, call 704-216-3512. The registration deadline is one week before the start date of class.

The Rowan-Cabarrus SBC is a community-based provider of education, training, counseling, information and referral, assisting entrepreneurs with business ideas and existing small business ventures.

The SBC also offers free seminars with support from the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce, the city of Kannapolis, the Rowan Business Alliance, RowanWorks Economic Development, the Small Business & Technology Development Center and Historic Downtown Salisbury.

The seminars cover a broad range of small business topics, including business start-ups, business financing, marketing, internet business, business growth and development, taxes, recordkeeping and customer service.

Basic accounting

The class “Basic Accounting for Small Business” begins Tuesday, Jan. 17 and continues each Tuesday through Feb. 7. The language used during this 12-hour course is ideal for beginners wishing to grasp key financial principles. No accounting knowledge or QuickBooks experience is required.

The class will meet from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays on the Rowan-Cabarrus North Campus, 1333 Jake Alexander Blvd. S. in Salisbury. Tuition is $65.
