After kicking off a contest in September to find a UNC-Chapel Hill student to represent the brand, Cheerwine has announced it has crowned sophomore Lauren Odom of Hendersonville as its first "Czar of Chillocity."

Odom will be rewarded for hanging out, mingling and sampling Cheerwine at specified events and popular student hangouts in 2010, spreading "cheer" and helping to fuel a grassroots movement on campus.

Students who wanted to be considered for the position uploaded videos of themselves explaining why they'd make the best Czar. Cheerwine selected finalists, featured their videos on the Web site for voting and went to Chapel Hill to interview each before selecting a winner.

As Czar, Odom will have a chance to earn $1,000 for going to Cheerwine-selected events. Cheerwine is hoping to expand its "Czar of Chillocity" ambassador program to a second college in North Carolina. You can view Odom's winning video at CheerwineCzar.com.

Poll
What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
