Salisbury will be alive with the sound of music this Friday night. During the Holiday Night Out, strollers will be treated to music around every turn on sidewalks and in stores.
Then as the Night Out festivities wind down, the music will heat up inside several Salisbury night spots:
- The Blue Vine, 209 S. Main St., welcomes back Gigi Dover and the Big Love with their soulful retro-funk and raucous Americana. They will be performing 9 p.m. to midnight. No cover. (www.myspace.com/gigidoverandthebiglove).
- At Brick Street Tavern, 122 E. Fisher St., Contagious Blues Band takes the stage around 10 p.m. The Charlotte band's bluesy rock and soul recently garnered them the 2008 Blues Kings of Beale Street Award. $5 cover. (www.myspace.com/contagiousbluesband).
- On the fringe of Downtown in the Railwalk arts district, The Looking Glass Artist Collective, 405 N. Lee St., is offering a triple feature starting at 8 p.m.
Opening will be the internationally-flavored indie duo The Lightning Bugs and their array of instruments. (www.myspace.com/thelightningbugs).
Next, Charlotte musician Dylan Gilbert will bring his unique brand of rock and experimental pop to the Looking Glass stage. He'll perform songs from his latest CD 'The Quiet Life" along with other fan favorites. (www.myspace.com/dylangilbert).
Rounding out the program is Resident Patient featuring recent Athens, Ga. transplant E.W. Harris with an electo pop performance that integrates instrumental and found sounds with jazz and lyricism to create an experience like no other. (www.myspace.com/residentpatient).Tickets are $3 in advance and $4 at the door. Advance tickets are available at the Looking Glass shop, 405 N. Lee St.
A little farther up the road, in Spencer, Escape the Daily Grind, 316 S. Salisbury Ave., is hosting Sam Havens playing Flamenco and gypsy guitar 8-10 p.m. He will be performing there Saturday also. There is no cover. (www.myspace/flamencodelsol).
