Fall classes at Waterworks Visual Arts Center

Waterworks Visual Arts Center has announced their classes for Session II of their Fall 2008 classes.

Waterworks is located at 123 E. Liberty St.

Nature wreaths

Parent, grandparent, aunt, or uncle with child, third grade and older, will gather at the Waterworks and then head out to forage the forest for debris that will be used to create a wreath complete with a nature scene. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy with your child, then meet back at the studio to create your special nature wreath.

3rd grade and up with adult

Saturday, Oct. 25, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

$50 member/$60 non-member

Color Theory with Phyllis Steimel

This class is designed to help painters of all mediums learn the right way to use color in paintings. Students will better understand the properties of color.

Exercises using the student's own medium (oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, colored pencil, etc.) will be accomplished during each class. Paintings other than color theory references will not be done in this series. All skill levels, ages 18 and up.

Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Nov. 11, 18, 25; Dec. 2, 9, 16

$75 member/$90 non-member

Figure Drawing with Lou Murphy

This class will meet the needs of beginners looking for instruction as well as repeat students who want some independence. Students will learn to be at ease with drawing from life and will draw from nude models. Must be age 18 or older.

Thursday evenings, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Nov. 6, 13, 20; Dec. 4, 11, 18

A materials list will be provided at registration.

$100 member/$120 non-member.

Build and Throw Clay with Brenda Gariepy

Learn the basics of hand-building clay and throwing pots on the wheel. All clay fees included.

Class is limited to eight students, ages 16 and up.

Thursday evenings, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Nov 6, 13, 20; December 4, 11, 18

$100 member/$120 non-member

Holiday ornaments

Get creative with clay and make your own unique collection of holiday ornaments. Session I, create; Session II, decorate.

Grades 1-5

Nov. 15, 10 a.m.-1 p.m./ Nov. 22, 10 a.m.-noon.

$60 member/$75 non-member

Instructor: M.T. SidoliHoliday critters

Your imagination is the only requirement to create a one-of-a-kind "critter" constructed from found objects in nature. Add fabrics, feathers, beads, ribbons, and eyes to give it a unique personality. Use as a tree ornament or a gift for family or friends.

Ages 4-7

Saturday, Dec. 13, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

$30 per child

Instructor: Anna Simmons

(Parents or grandparents of 1st and 2nd graders are welcome to join their children for this class at no extra cost.)

At Home with Art with Bruce Wilson

During these one and one-half hour sessions, participants will learn framing, matting, and display techniques for the art in their homes. Wine and cheese refreshments will be served during each session. A special demonstration at Fine Frame Gallery will be inclu9ded.

Thursday evenings, Nov. 6, 13, 20, 7-8:30 p.m.

$60 member/$75 non-member

Registration information

- Members registering for two or more classes at the same time will receive a 10 percent discount.

- Four-year-olds must have reached their fourth birthday by Sept. 1, 2008, to register.

- Class fees are due at registration. You may register in person or by phone with VISA or MasterCard during regular business hours. Registration is not complete until payment is received.

- Annual membership must be valid at time of registration to receive member rate and multiple-class discounts.

- No refunds will be given for cancellations fewer than 15 calendar days before the start date of any class.

- No refunds for withdrawals after class sessions have begun.

- WVAC reserves the right to cancel any class with insufficient enrollment and will refund 100 percent of your class fee.
