"Simple Living" television host Wanda Urbanska and green building consultant Jennifer Pippin will discuss the trials and tribulations of creating their green homes on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Center for the Environment at Catawba College.

The presentation, "Green Restoration and Renovation," is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Room 300 of the center facility.

A 6:30 reception will precede the presentation, which is free and open to the public.

Urbanska's home, a 1950s ranch house in Mount Airy, was featured in Natural Home magazine's July/August issue. The eco-makeover addressed everything from improving energy efficiency and indoor air quality to revamping a Pepto-Bismol-pink bathroom and renovating a dated kitchen.

Urbanska has co-written a number of books, including "Simple Living" and "Nothing's Too Small to Make a Difference." She hosted the PBS primetime special "Escape from Affluenza: Living Better on Less," and has appeared on programs like the "Oprah Winfrey Show," the "Today" show and CBS "This Morning."

Her PBS program, "Simple Living with Wanda Urbanska," examines what people can do to make their lives easier and more stress-free. The show focuses on four themes: environmental stewardship, thoughtful consumption, community involvement and financial responsibility.

Pippin, owner of Pippin Home Designs Inc. in Sherrills Ford, is a nationally acclaimed residential design specialist who offers green home consulting and design. Her Green Home and Studio recently received the first place award in Special Projects: Green Renovation from the North Central Home Builders Association.

The Charlotte Business Journal and U.S. Green Building Council awarded her and her firm three prestigious Green Awards: Green Advocate of the Year, Green For-Profit Business of the Year and Green Residential Remodeling Project of the Year. For more information about the presentation, call 704-637-4295.
