Granite Quarry Fiddlers Convention

The 42nd annual Granite Quarry Fiddlers Convention is Oct. 4 in the East Rowan High School Auditorium on U.S. 52 south of Granite Quarry.

Sixteen hundred dollars in cash awards, plus trophies and rosettes, will be awarded to the best bands, fiddler, banjo picker, guitarist, mandolin player, bass player and dobro.

There will also be rosettes for the most promising talent ages 11 and under, and agest 12-16; buck dancing ages 16 and under, and over 16.

Bands, most promising talent, and buck dancers interested in participating may call 704-633-5940 for information. Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Most promising talent and buck dancing 16 and under will begin at 6 p.m. Band, individual and buck dancing over16 competitions will follow the most promising talent competition.

Admission is $8 for adults, $2 for children ages 6-12 and children under 6 free.

Barbecue chicken, hamaburgers, hot dogs and homemade desserts will be available in the school cafeteria from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. until.

Proceeds from the convention will go to Civitan projects, including Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Homes, Boy Scouts, people with developmental disabilities, Victory Junction Gang Camp, Civitan International Research Center, local school programs and community activities.
