Salisbury's newest arts venue, the Looking Glass Artist Collective, will be christening its gallery with an opening reception 6-9 p.m. Sept. 19.

"Through the Looking Glass" features works of local visual artists who are members of the collective. The exhibit will be on display through Nov. 22.

The gallery also doubles as a black box theatre and is the home of LGAC's resident acting troupe, Lee Street Theatre. During the opening on Sept. 19, actors Claudia Galup and Brian Rohman will be presenting the 15-minute Stuart Spencer play "Rothko Room" twice during the course of the evening, at 7 and 8 p.m.

As another added attraction, the gallery curator Herbert Maier will present two short programs showing the Chinese martial art of Wing Chun, which he will be teaching in Salisbury this fall.

In keeping with the visual and performing arts atmosphere of the evening, Sifu (instructor) Maier will use theatrical lighting to focus attention on the "Moving Sculpture" or Kinetic Art" aspect of the work, rather than its martial aspect. These two presentations will last about eight minutes each and occur at 6:45 and 7:45 p.m.

The collective's store, featuring art, crafts, books and DVDs created by members, will be open during the event.

LGAC is located at 405-407 N. Lee Street, in two converted warehouse spaces. The collective is a part of the growing Rail Walk Arts District on the fringe of downtown.
