- Two new vendors have joined the market. The Olde Homestead is offering a variety of baked goods, ranging from sourdough and whole wheat breads to dinner rolls, cookies and pies.

Last Saturday, the whole wheat bread, which is light and slightly sweet, sold out before 10 a.m.

By special order, cakes are available, including German Chocolate, and all special orders are welcome.

- The second new vendor is Bierly's Produce, with a variety of red and green tomatoes and other vegetables. This is a good source for cayenne peppers.

- This past Saturday was the last market day for Ritchie's Garden Produce. (The kids are back in school.) But they will maintain a stand on Scout Road, off Bringle Ferry Road, about 10 miles outside Salisbury.

- Wild Turkey Farms will alter its every-other-week schedule this month to be at the market again this coming Saturday with assorted pork products, eggs and fresh chickens. The farm just received Certified Family Farms accreditation.

- From several vendors, butter beans and October beans are increasingly available and several have both half-runners and stringless green beans.

- If you're looking for something you can't find, consult Market Manager Harry Agner, who is always conspicuously on the scene.

- The market, at the corner of South Main and Bank streets, is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday. Arrive early for best selection.
