The Word of Life Family Worship Center will present a Love For Haiti benefit program on Sunday at 5 p.m.
Guest speakers Matt and Ashley Jacobs of Lincolnton are missionaries to Haiti, working with the Danita’s Children Program. They have gone to serve in Quanaminthe, Haiti four times since 2007.
They will share information on the current conditions of Haiti and how others can assist and get involved.

The logistical dance and mime ministry will also perform during the program.

Free BTS supplies
Refuge Church of God in Christ is sponsoring a back-to- school community outreach by distributing school supplies to children in need.
On Saturday, Aug. 10, from 3:30-5:30 p.m., the church will have hot dogs, drinks and school supplies for all families with school age children.
Supplies are limited and given on a first-come, first-serve basis. The child must be accompanied with the parent or guardian to receive the supplies.

Benefit concert
East Spencer
— Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1570 N. Long Street, hosts a concert tonight at 6 p.m. with all proceeds benefitting the North Rowan Connection Scholarship Program.
The choir, under the direction of Milton Griffith, is made up of men throughout North Carolina.
Guest musicians are Keith Holland from Jerusalem Baptist Church, Hendrick Collins from Dorset Chapel Church and Sir Davis from Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Teens With a Mission
This Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Salisbury, at all three worship services — 8:30 a.m., 8:50 a.m. and 11 a.m. — Teens With A Mission (TWAM) will be giving a report on their recent mission trip to Eden, Jamaica.
Two TWAM participants will share their reflections of the trip, a slide show of pictures will be presented, and TWAM will share some of the music they sang while in Jamaica.

Macedonia homecoming
Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church will observe its annual homecoming celebration service on Sunday.
Guest Speaker for the 3 p.m. service will be Dr. George B. Jackson, founding pastor of Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship and President of the United Cornerstone School of Divinity in Thomasville.
Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.
Revival services begin on Tuesday, Aug. 3 and continue nightly at 7:30 p.m. through Friday, Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Revival speaker will be the Rev. Herbert Miller II, M. Div., pastor of First Baptist Church in Lexington.

— Homecoming Sunday at Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ, 1280 Hollywood Drive in Spencer, will be celebrated on Sunday.
Pastor Ricky Johnson of Antioch Baptist Church will be the speaker for the 3 p.m. service.
In addition, Dorsett Chapel revival services will be held Aug. 2-6 at 7 p.m. nightly.
Bishop Derek D. Kelly, of New Faith Full Gospel Baptist Church in Lexington, will be guest speaker for the week.

Quartet at Calvary
Southland Harmony Quartet will be in concert at Calvary Baptist Church this Sunday.
The service begins at 6 p.m., all of which will be given for the concert.
Southland Harmony Quartet, a gospel group committed to providing an exciting time in gospel ministry, brings back traditional southern Gospel music. Their motto is “Spreading the Gospel on Wings of Song.”

Salem Lutheran VBS
Salem Lutheran Church will hold vacation Bible school Sunday, Aug. 1 through Thursday, Aug. 5.
The theme this year is “The Baobab Tree Blast—God’s Great Get-Together,” five stories from the Bible with the themes of trust, love, follow, care, and share.
Each night begins with dinner at 5:30 p.m. for all the participants.The program starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m.
There will be Bible stories, crafts, songs and fun games for children preschool age through 5th grade. There will be an adult Bible study as well.
On Thursday is the covered dish dinner, a closing program and a pool party. Register at Salem’s Sunday services or call 704-636-0352 to request a registration. The church is at 5080 Sherrills Ford Road.

— On Sunday at 3 p.m. the Rev. Timothy Bridges will be the guest speaker at Cedar Grove’s 53rd anniversary celebration, 2430 Hildebrand Road, Cleveland. Bridges is associate pastor at Macedonia Baptist Church in Kannapolis.
Mt. Moriah VBS
Landis
— Mt. Moriah Evangelical Lutheran Church, in cooperation with Lutheran Chapel Church at Mt. Moriah facilities, will host vacation Bible school from Sunday, Aug. 1 through Friday, Aug. 6.
With a theme of “Under the Baobab Tree, God’s Great Get-Together,” it will begin on Sunday morning during Sunday School from 9:15-10:15 a.m. Monday through Friday the time will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There will be a meal served prior to the classes each evening.
There will be Bible stories, crafts, game, and music with classes for preschool through elementary, as well as special youth mystery trips and an adult class.

Joint AME Zion VBS
Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church and Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church will sponsor a joint vacation Bible school, Aug. 2-6 from 6-8 p.m. nightly at Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, located at 500 Partee Street.
The theme for this year is “Step Up and Go Green for Jesus” for preschool children through adults. There will be crafts, games, snacks and Bible training.

St. Matthew Baptist

— Annual revival services at St. Matthew Baptist Church, Rockwell, will begin Wednesday, Aug. 4 and conclude Friday, Aug. 6.
Services will begin nightly at 7:30 p.m. The speakers for the week are as follows: on Wednesday, the Rev. Alonzo Williams, pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church in East Spencer; on Thursday, the Rev. Matthew Vaughters, pastor of Resurrection Life Christian Center; on Friday, the Rev. Clarence Marlin, pastor of Fairview Baptist Church.
Singled Out yard sale
The Singled Out Ministry of First Baptist Church in Salisbury is sponsoring a community-wide yard sale on Friday, Aug. 6 from 6-8 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 7 from 7 a.m. -1 p.m. at their First Ministry Gym (old YMCA) at 220 N. Fulton St.
There will furniture, linens, baby items, toys, clothes, books, holiday, household, much more. Food will be available. Proceeds go to the Singled Out Ministry scholarships and children’s charities.
People from the community can also purchase tables at $10 per table inside or $5 outside and keep all proceeds. Call 704-633-0431 to reserve tables.

Union Lutheran
Union Lutheran Church, 4770 Bringle Ferry Road, announces its mission week and homecoming.
Thursday, Aug. 5 is “Barefoot Thursday,” where gently used and new shoes will be collected during the 7 p.m. worship service in the sanctuary. Donated shoes will be sent to Soles4Souls, a Nashville- based charity that distributes shoes both domestically and internationally to those in need.
On Friday, Aug. 6, an old-fashioned hymn sing request hour will take place in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m., followed by the traditional homemade ice cream and treats supper.
Sunday, Aug. 8, Union will celebrate homecoming with guest minister and son of the congregation pastor, Jarrod Lanning.
Pastor Lanning currently serves Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis and is a doctoral student at Hood Theological Seminary.
After worship in the sanctuary at 10:30 a.m., a picnic lunch will be held on the grounds.
Human rights event
The Salisbury-Rowan Unit of Church Women United in North Carolina will hold a Human Rights Celebration on Friday, Aug. 6 from 7–8:30 p.m.
Guest speaker will be Wanda Osborne Foil, who will be a part of the national program with the theme of “Living the Challenge: Differently Enabled, Uniquely Called.”
Two local persons will be given Human Rights Awards.
The program and refreshments will take place in Brincefield Hall (school cafeteria) of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 375 Lumen Christi Lane.
The Action Project is to bring school supplies for Rowan County Communities in Schools. The public is invited to attend.
Sound of Music’s Rolf
Concord
— Dan Truhitte, who played Rolf in the classic movie The Sound of Music, will sing at New Gilead Church on Sunday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
He will sing several selections in the morning service, which will be followed by lunch. Then he will sing several more favorites from the movie as well as other selections.
He is best-known for his role as Rolf Gruber, a young German soldier in World War II. In the years following his performance in The Sound of Music, he had roles in Kismet, Bells are Ringing, Brigadoon, and Little Mary Sunshine.
Lunch will be provided. New Gilead Church is located at 2400 Old Salisbury-Concord Road, Concord. Take exit 63 going south on I-85, turn left on Lane St., go .8 mile to Old Salisbury Rd., turn right, go 3. 5 miles to the church.
Lifeline Triumphant
Lifeline Triumphant Pentecostal Church will be having Twelve Tribes Program on Sunday, Aug. 8 at 3:30 p.m.
The service will be held at Tower of Power Church on Cemetery Street.
Pastor Shay Geter from Zoe Church of Deliverance will be the speaker.

— Beginning Aug. 25, Smart Start Rowan will be hosting “Play to Learn” at Concordia Lutheran Church, 185 Concordia Church Road.
“Play to Learn” is a for children ages birth to 5 with their parent/guardian. Playgroups will gather Wednesdays 9-10:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in the Family Life Center.
Parents will learn to teach children through play, how to handle challenging behaviors, receive information on local resources and more.
