William Turner of Salisbury holds up two of his robust, 5-pound zucchinis. He claims they grew in a matter of days, thanks to the nearly tropical amount of rain falling on the county this summer.
From left: Bekah Wallace, Sarah Wallace, Mark McDaniel, and Maddy hold a batch of strange potatoes grown at their grandfather's home on Gheen Road. They claim hard work and fertilizer as the secret to success. Photo by Seth Leonard, Salisbury Post.
Summertime ... and the vegetables are weird, big, heavy, Siamese twins, warped, funny colors, funny faces or just ugly.

If you have an odd or large vegetable, e-mail or bring us a photo of it with your name, details and a daytime phone number. E-mail to news@salisburypost.com.

Large items should be weighed before being submitted. We do not have scales at the Salisbury Post.

No store-bought produce! Not even from the Farmers Market.

No piecing things together, like Mr. Potatohead.

And the person who grew it has to be in the photo.

If you can't e-mail or bring us a photo, please be aware that we have limited resources for taking your photo if you come to our offices. Please call in advance to set up a time to come by. Call 704-797-4250 to make sure someone is available to help you.
