CLEVELAND — If you hear the name Jordan Poole in the halls of West Rowan High School, you automatically think "artist."

Jordan, daughter of Robin Blackwood and George Poole, is currently enrolled in Art IV with teacher Cindy Morgan. During the course of four years, Morgan has had Jordan in four art classes.

"She's one of those students who with the first project, you knew she had it," Morgan said. "Everything she touches, she's good at: pencil, oil pastel, paint, colored pencils."

Jordan plans to attend Rowan Cabarrus Community College and then wants to transfer credits to a college where she can study art.

When asked what she likes to draw most, she said, "I just draw what I see," but after thinking for a moment she admits she likes drawing flowers and fruits.

Many West Rowan students and faculty know her for her drawing of Johnny Depp in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, a character from the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean." This piece is also one of her favorites.

"There's just something about his face I like to draw," Jordan says.

Salvador Dali, Jordan's favorite artist, has two pieces that Jordan especially admires: "Burning Giraffe" and "Antface."

She likes this artist for his random and crazy style, but also the amazing detail of his work. Her reason for admiring Dali is similar to what others admire her work for.

She is a co-recipient with Katelyn Patterson of this year's art award at West Rowan High School.

"She really has no idea how good she is," said Morgan, whose best advice for Jordan is "Just take a leap of faith — keep doing art."

Regan Smith attends West Rowan High School and is an intern for the Salisbury Post.

This is a fantastic drawing!! I'd love to see more of this young woman's art! I love to draw; and recently tried my hand at drawing Johnny Depp too. Other artist friends thought it was good; but this has mine beat HANDS DOWN!! I hope she can find a spot where she can continue her art and earn a good living with it!
