Downtown Salisbury Inc. presents Spring Night Out from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday in Historic Downtown Salisbury.
Spring Night Out offers an eclectic mix of music and other entertainment, art and trolley rides, and fun of all kinds for the entire family.
Stroll the sidewalks of Downtown and enjoy live jazz by Freeport. This four-piece group offers "jazz for all people," including smooth and contemporary jazz, as well as standards.
Browse the creations of local Carolina Artists. Check out the classic cars in the Farmers Market lot.
Take Mom on a special carriage ride around downtown in honor of Mother's Day, courtesy of Triple Springs Horse Run and Ellis Community Store. A private carriage for just the two of you is only $20. Or $5 per adult and $3 for each child will fill a carriage with family fun.
Children will also enjoy the moonbounces, face painting, stilt walker and clown.
With downtown shops offering extended hours, it will be an excellent opportunity to find the perfect Mother's Day gift.

Gold Hill Rail Trail
GOLD HILL — Organizers at Historic Gold Hill will host Hike along the Historic Gold Hill Rail Trail Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. This will be the first organized tour and hike of the Rail Trail.
The Rail Trail, is a protected property of The Land Trust for Central North Carolina, developed in partnership with The Historic Gold Hill and Mines Foundation Inc.
Staff will also be on hand to answer questions about land protection and conservation opportunities. Hikers will get a lesson in history as the trail passes sites and landmarks in Gold Hill Mines Historic Park.
Those not interested in hiking can enjoy visiting the shops. Entertainers will be on hand to provide music in the village from 4 to 5 p.m.

Daniel Boone Festival
MOCKSVILLE — This Saturday in Mocksville, Davie County celebrates its frontier heritage at the Daniel Boone Family Festival, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Headlining the events will be guitarist and singer Junior Brown, scheduled to perform a free outdoor concert from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Junker's Millstage. Brown is known for his "guit-steel," a combination electric and steel guitar that he helped invent, and the songs "Highway Patrol" and "My Wife Thinks You're Dead."
Stage entertainment will also include a 50-minute one-woman play called "The Capture," which tells the story of Daniel Boone helping rescue his daughter after her capture by Native Americans.
The Bottom Line Bluegrass Band will perform, and there will be re-enactors depicting life in the Piedmont in the mid-1700s.
The streets of Downtown Mocksville will be filled with arts, crafts and food vendors. Food and beverages will also be available at the Junker's Mill stage.
Daniel Boone's family moved to what is now Davie County in 1751 or 1752, having migrated here from Pennsylvania. The festival celebrates the marriage of Daniel Boone to Rebecca Bryan some 252 years ago. The Boones lived in Davie County for several years, starting their family here before moving west. Boone was a regular visitor to Salisbury, and was commissioned to build a road between the two settlements.
The festival will also include tours of historic sites in Davie County.

Logo contest
The recently formed Looking Glass Artist Collective of Salisbury is seeking submissions of designs for a logo.
Anybody, any age, may submit a design for consideration. There is no cost to enter and no limit to the number of entries.
The deadline for submission is May 15, 2008.
The winner will be awarded three months of free membership in the artist collective.
The logo may, but does not need to, contain the name of the organization. It can use the full name, or LGAC, or just Looking Glass, or no words at all.

Orchestra concert
MOORESVILLE — Lake Norman Orchestra invites the community to its Fifth Anniversary Celebration Concert and Reception Saturday, May 17, at 7 p.m. in the Family Life Center of Peninsula Baptist Church, 687 Brawley School Road, Mooresville.
This free concert will feature the premier performance of "Lake Dance," commissioned to mark this milestone. Dr. William G. Harbinson, Mooresville native and guest conductor, will attend a Meet-the-Composer reception following this performance.
This event will kick off a "5 for 5" fundraising campaign, asking the community to keep the music alive by donating $25. Key sponsors of this program are Mooresville Ford, Duke Energy and Iredell County Arts Council.

Colonial Crafts
Rowan Museum is offering a Colonial Crafts Workshop for adults.
It will be held May 31 from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $20 per person. Teachers taking the course will receive renewal credits.
The workshop explores skills such as writing with a quill and ink, making paper, weaving on a loom, making gourd birdhouses, dip candles and more.
This workshop is sponsored in part by a grant from the Grassroots Arts Program of the N.C. Arts Council.

Holy Ghost returns
The band Holy Ghost Tent Revival from Greensboro pays its second visit to Salisbury, playing at The Blue Vine this Friday.
Band members are Matt Martin (guitar, banjo, harmonica, vocals), Stephen Murray (vocals, guitar, banjo), Josh Lovings (trumpet, vocals), Hank Widmer (trombone, euphonium, vocals), P.J. Leslie (bass, vocals, guitar) and Ross Montsinger (percussion).
Friday's show begins at 8:30 p.m., during Downtown Salisbury's Spring Night Out. There will be no cover charge.
