Artist Robert Crum's black and white mosaic for Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach is modeled after a memorial to John Lennon in New York City.

A black and white marble mosaic completed by Salisbury artist Robert Crum was recently installed at Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Canadian company, UCC Group of Toronto, Canada, commissioned Crum to complete a large mosaic. It is 12 feet in diameter (113 square feet) and constructed using one inch and smaller black and white marble tile. It imitates one used as a memorial to John Lennon that is found in New York City's Central Park.
Crum continues to earn a living as an oil painter, selling paintings in commercial galleries. However, after learning to create murals under master fresco painter Ben Long, Robert has also turned his attention to creating mosaics in a number of public settings in such places as Arizona, Costa Rica, North Carolina and now two in South Carolina. Crum also has studied the art of mosaics under a number of American and Italian artists and in May will travel to Rome to study Roman and Byzantine mosaics in the studio of Enzo Aiello.
Hard Rock Park is the world's first rock 'n' roll theme park, located in a 140-acre setting in Myrtle Beach. The park was developed under a long-term license agreement with Hard Rock Cafe.
This $400 million project opened to the public on April 15; however the grand opening event will be June 2-3 and feature live performances by the Eagles and The Moody Blues.
