CLEVELAND — Cleveland First Baptist Church will be observing Baptist Men's Day Sunday at the 11 a.m. service.

Dr. Dan Hogue from Salisbury will be the guest speaker; his message will be "Five Smooth Stones."

Hogue has been a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church since 1960. He has been a high school football referee since 1977 and a college football referee since 1982 and an official in nine bowl assignments.

Other Baptist laymen will be participating in the morning service.

At 5 p.m. the movie "Facing The Giants" will be shown in the church Fellowship Hall.

Refreshments will be provided for those in attendance. The public is invited to these services. Bobby Seagroves is Interim Pastor at Cleveland First Baptist Church.

White Rock AME Zion

GRANITE QUARRY — White Rock AME Zion Church Gospel Choir will sponsor a musical program tonight at 6 p.m. The public is invited.

On Sunday at the 11 a.m. service, the church's Christian Education department will continue to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Reid R. White Jr., presiding elder of the Spartanburg District, Palmetto Annual Conference of the AME Zion Church and dean of Conference Studies. He is employed as a Clinical Chaplain II with the South Carolina Department of Corrections at Stevenson Correctional Institution in Columbia, S.C.

The Rev. Morgan Glenn is pastor of White Rock Church.

South China Grove Church of God

CHINA GROVE — This Sunday night at 6:30 p.m., South China Grove Church of God will be hosting special speaker, Edwin Galloway, whose wife Evelyn was pastor at the church for nearly five years. He will be representing the Gideons.

An offering for the ministry of the Gideons will be received. In addition, the Conference on Healing will resume in the 11 a.m. service with prayer for the sick at the end of the message.

The church is located at 163 Third Ave. in China Grove.

Buds of Promise

CLEVELAND — Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, Cleveland, will be observing "Marie L. Clinton Day-105 Years and Still Blooming."

In the AME Zion Church, Mrs. Marie Louise Clay Clinton, wife of Bishop George Wylie Clinton, was elected first general superintendent of the Buds of Promise Juvenile Missionary Department in 1904.

This Sunday at the 11 a.m. service, the Buds of Promise will be in charge of the service. Superintendent of the local Buds is Margaret Ellis. Buds are from birth through 12 years of age.

The guest speaker will be 8-year-old Elijah H. Collier. He is a student at Charles E. Boger Elementary School and is in the third grade. He attends Moore's Chapel AME Zion Church in Salisbury and is a part of the Buds of Promise under the pastor, the Rev. Carolyn Bratton.

The pastor of Cedar Grove is the Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Tyson.

Puppet team

CHINA GROVE — Pine Ridge Baptist Church will host The Mustard Seed Gang puppet team of Yadkin Baptist Church, Spencer, presenting a program called "Rock Solid" Sunday at 6 p.m.

In this program, two teams in a Summit Challenge climb to the top and along the way discover there are many similarities in their climb to the top and their journey through life.

The public is invited. The church is located on Old Linn Road between Daugherty Road and Pine Ridge Road.

Dorsett Chapel UCC

SPENCER — Willette Houston Johnson will preach her initial sermon in a service at Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ this Sunday at 5 p.m.

Johnson is a native of Merritt Island, Fla. She is the daughter of late William and Jeanette Houston and granddaughter of the late Rev. William Abraham Houston.

She attended Brevard County schools and received B.A. in Urban Studies and Community affairs from Johnson C. Smith University. She has served in a various capacities in the Human Service field in Rowan County during the past 20 years.

The pastor of Dorsett Chapel is the Rev. R. Thomas Wyatt.

Erwin Temple

COOLEEMEE — The usher board of Erwin Temple CME Church will have their annual Usher Day program Sunday at 3 p.m. The program is entitled "Bad Women and Men of the Bible."

Guest speakers have been invited from various area churches to portray and speak on certain characteristics selected from the Bible.

During the program, there will be selections of Gospel songs rendered.

The junior and senior ushers work jointly. The Rev. Ervin L. Hannah Jr. is pastor.

Love Christian Center

EAST SPENCER — Bishop Donald Newkirk will speak at Love Christian Center Sunday at 5 p.m.

Newkirk is the pastor of New Beginning Christian Development Center, Lexington. He is the vice overseer of the Southeast and Northwest districts of the Church of God Apostolic Inc. He will be accompanied by his church and choir.

Love Christian Center is located at 102 N. Long St., East Spencer. The pastor is Bishop Ronald Hash.

Liberty AME Zion

COOLEEMEE — Liberty AME Zion Church, 271 Gladstone Road, is celebrating their 131st church anniversary this Sunday at 3 p.m.

The speaker will be the Rev. Gwendolyn Hampton, pastor of St. John AME Zion Church, accompanied by the choir.

The theme for this year is "Experiencing God at the Next Level."

Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

The Rev. Dr. Bertha E. Pittman is church pastor.

First Assembly

LANDIS — The Rev. Tom and Dr. Teresa Stamman of Impact Ministries International in Lonsdale, Minn., will minister at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. worship services at Landis First Assembly, 302 E. Corriher St., Landis this Sunday.

They have ministered in over 1000 churches since 1986, praying for over 100,000 people.

The public is invited to both services. Because seating is limited, people are encouraged to arrive early.

Cedar Grove AME Zion

CLEVELAND — Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, the Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Tyson, pastor, will be having their Winter Revival Jan. 26 through 28 at 7 p.m. The theme is "Restoration, Renewal and Rebuilding."

On Tuesday, the preacher will be Rev. Dr. Grant Harrison Jr. He will be accompanied by his congregation from Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church and the Soldiers Memorial Cathedral Choir.

Wednesday's preacher will be the Rev. Maurice Harden with the Marable Memorial AME Zion Church family and the Marable Memorial Mass Choir.

On Thursday, the preacher will be the Rev. Anthony Freeman of Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church, accompanied by his congregation and choir.

Danny Wallace visits

CHINA GROVE — On Sunday, Jan. 31, Danny Wallace will be at South China Grove Baptist Church.

He will give a musical presentation at the 11 a.m. service. During the 6 p.m. service, Wallace will provide the music and a message entitled, "The Heart of a Father"." The message is directed toward understanding the true heart of the heavenly Father as well as understanding how to develop strong family bonds with true father leadership within the family.

Wallace is a recording artist and author of "MASKquerade," and has traveled all over the United States with his amazing life story. "No Harm Done," his testimony, is available free of charge at www.dannywallace.org.

The public is invited to both services. There is no charge, but an offering will be taken.

South China Grove Baptist Church is located at 501 Haney St., one block off West Thom Street, in China Grove. The Rev. Shane Utley is pastor, and the Rev. Ryan Bennett is youth pastor.
