ROCKWELL — Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road, Rockwell, will have a worship service of music by Wayne and Gina Stewart on Jan. 17 at 10:30 a.m.
The Stewarts sing gospel music country-style, some of which they have written and recorded. Wayne is an accomplished songwriter, singer, and musician who has spent more than two decades in the gospel music industry. He has performed on the Grand Ole' Opry stage.
Gina has years of experience in delivering God's message through song in many different groups and settings. The Stewarts live in Midland.
Other vocalists in the group are Jonathan Jessup and Todd Chrisco.
The public is invited to the service.
Lifeline installation
Lifeline Triumphant Pentecostal Church, 506 E. Lafayette St., will be having an installation service for new officers this Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Rev. Wayne Murdock of Assemblies for Christ, High Point, will be the speaker. The public is invited to this service.
Ministerial alliance
The United Ministerial Alliance will observe the holiday of Dr. Martin Luther King on Jan. 17, beginning at 7 p.m. at Tower of Power Holy Church, 601 E. Cemetery St. The Rev. William Turner is the pastor.
The speaker will be the Dr.George B. Jackson. He is the chairman of the Dr. Martin Luther King Social Action Committee and he is also the pastor of Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship, Thomasville.
Fairview Heights
Fairview Heights Baptist Church is celebrating the 8th anniversary of the Rev. Clarence E. Marlin Sunday at 11 a.m. The guest speaker is the Rev. Clayton Ruggs of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Speaker at the 3:30 p.m. service will be the Rev. Jimmy Moore, pastor of Wesley Chapel Christian Fellowship Church in Siler City.
Race Relations
CHINA GROVE — South China Grove United Methodist Church will celebrate Race Relations Sunday and Martin Luther King Sunday on Jan. 17 with the Rev. Bernetta Wright speaking.
Wright is a volunteer associate pastor who has recently finished her studies at Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury and is making the transition from the AME Zion Church to the United Methodist Church.
Everyone is invited to share in this service at the regular 9:30 a.m. time.
Gospel Fest
KANNAPOLIS — Gospel Fest 2010 will be held at New Beginning Church of God, 1124 Thomas Ave., Sunday at 3 p.m.
In concert will be The Gospel Traveliers of the Carolinas, New Beginning Male Chorus of Kannapolis, Anointed Voices of Salisbury, Bishop Fred Thomas and the voices of faith of Charlotte, Pastor Annie Thomas and the bright stars of Charlotte, Heavenly Voices of Concord, Aires of Salvation of Salisbury, Spiritual Sons of God of Mooresville and others.

Messianic artist
Beit Shofarot presents Messianic Artist Zemer LeVav in concert on Saturday Jan. 23, at Salisbury Christian Fellowship, 210 W. Ritchie Road.
Concert begins at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:15 p.m. A light oneg will follow the event.
There will also be a Messianic worship dance workshop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A suggested love offering of $10 will be accepted. Registration begins at 11:45 a.m.

Praise and basketball
MISENHEIMER — The Village Church of Pfeiffer University will host an evening of pizza, praise and worship and Falcons basketball beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23 on the Misenheimer campus. There is no cost to attend.
The evening will begin in the Stokes Student Center Community Room with a pizza party followed by praise and worship at 6 p.m. in the Henry Pfeiffer Chapel with the Pfeiffer Praise Band, a select group of student musicians who play traditional and contemporary Christian praise music.
At 7 p.m., participants are invited to watch the Pfeiffer Men's Basketball team take on Erskine College in the Merner Gym.
This event, although held on a Saturday this time, is the third in a series of the "Sunday Night Alive!" programs sponsored by the Village Church at Pfeiffer. All youth groups and youth ministries are invited to attend. The event is free and open to the public, but participants must RSVP by January 20 to attend.
Sunday Night Alive! started last fall to offer middle and high school youth groups opportunities to attend praise and worship festivities that include concerts and presentations by popular artists and individuals who appeal to a growing community of young worshippers. These events typically occur on the third Sunday of every month at 6 p.m.
Sunday Night Alive! events are made possible, in part, by a three-year grant to the Village Church from the Duke Endowment to support a multifaceted cooperative youth programming initiative in Stanly County.

College night
First United Methodist Church Salisbury Youth will be having a college night on Jan. 24. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the youth lounge with the meal at 6 p.m. Those attending are asked to donate $2 to help cover the cost of food.
There will be a panel of three speakers from Catawba College, Pfeiffer University and a former seminary student at Duke University who read and reviewed applications. They will be providing information about admissions, academic support, campus life, financial aid, and the application process. They will provide question and answer time.
This is open to any high school student and/or parent who has questions about the college process.

Laity service awards
CHINA GROVE — South China Grove United Methodist Church presented this year's Laity Service award to Jay and Theresa Owens.
Jay is active in many aspects of the church life but Shirley Alexander, lay leader, lifted up his special service and many hours as Family Life coordinator, helping the congregation in their new mission outreach which is the One Child One Church program through the Rowan County Department of Social Services.
Theresa Owens is the financial secretary and has advised the congregation and developed a recording system for contribution records that is in compliance with all the latest IRS requirements.
