The United Ministerial Alliance of Salisbury-Rowan will sponsor a joint fellowship service honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 E. Cemetery St. Elder Patricia C. Turner, co-pastor of the Tower of Power, will be the guest speaker.

Turner was actively involved in the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s while a student at A & T State University, and participated in the city-wide mass voter registration drive in Greensboro. She was later jailed for nearly a week, along with over 3,000 students from the various colleges in the area, following a major march on the segregated movie theater in the downtown area.

After receiving her degree in Business Education in 1965, she went on to receive master degrees in Business Education and Special Education from NC Central University.

After nearly 35 years in teaching, she returned to school and completed the Master of Divinity Degree at Hood Theological Seminary in 2005.

Sunday’s program will also feature the Young Adult Praise Singers of New Zion Baptist Church, the Liturgical Dance Team of Love Christian Center, and the Tower of Power Church Choir. The Rev. William Turner is host pastor.

Word of Faith revival

EAST SPENCER — The revival at Word of Faith Youth Center, 112 E Henderson St., continues tonight at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 15 at 5 p.m.

Children’s shoe distribution today

CONCORD — In conjunction with Samaritan’s Feet National Day of Service, Epworth United Methodist Church will be one of seventeen nationwide Shoes of Hope distribution sites today, Jan. 14.

Volunteers will be giving out 300 pairs of shoes for children in need up to 12 years old, child’s size 10 and up, first come, first served. The distribution takes place from 10 a.m.-noon at Epworth United Methodist Church, 1030 Burrage Road NE. For more information contact Teresa Gray, 704-786-6183 or epworthchildren@ctc.net

Trinity UMC

KANNAPOLIS — Trinity United Methodist Church will hold two worship services this Sunday, 8:30 a.m. praise and worship and the 11 a.m. traditional service.

Resurrection Life

The traveling Hinkle Family will be at Resurrection Life Church, 216 S. Main St., on Sunday, Jan. 15 at the 10 a.m. service.

The Rev. Butch Hinkle Sr. will bring the message and the family will share song and testimony. The Hinkles have been in Rowan County this week ministering at local nursing homes.

First Calvary

First Calvary Baptist Church will honor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during its 11 a.m. service. The sermon will be given by Katherine Vestal, who has worked in church planting, Hispanic ministries and short mission. She teaches Spanish at RCCC.

Youth GospelFest

CLEVELAND — Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church will hold a Youth GospelFest on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m., sponsored by the Christian Educaiton department. The church is located at 5890 S. River Church Road, where the Rev. William Speas is pastor. Call 704-278-2885 for details.

New Shepherd installs new pastor

COOLEEMEE — On Sunday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m., the Rev. Curtis L. Cummings of Atlanta, Ga. will be installed as pastor of New Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Melvin E. Kesler (Pastor E), will be the speaker for the occassion. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m .

St. Matthew Missionary’s new pastor

ROCKWELL — St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church will hold the installation service of the Rev. John Kennedy Geter as pastor of the church. Geter has served as an associate pastor of Files Chapel Baptist Church and Oakhurst Baptist Church.

The service of installation is Sunday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. A reception for the pastor and his family will be held after the service.

GospelFest 2012

CONCORD — GospelFest 2012 will take place on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m., hosted by New Beginning Church of God in Concord.

In concert will be The Gospel Traveliers of the Carolinas, Heavenly Voices of Concord, Gospel Deliverers of Statesville, Gospel Express of Statesville, The New Voices of Faith from Salisbury and Fred Thomas & New Voices of Faith from Charlotte.

Prince of Peace

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (corner of Hwy 152 and Old Concord Road) will begin a new four-week Bible study on stories from Genesis. The first session is on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. A light supper will be served at 6 p.m. www.princeofpeacesalisbury.org

The Blessing of God

LEXINGTON — The Giving God Glory program will be held Friday Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. at The Blessing of God Ministry. Guest speaker will be Lady Alice Griffin of Center Grove AME Zion Church. Mother Robena Jones is the sponsor.

Progressive Outreach

Progressive Outreach Ministry with be hosting is its first free business expo on Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For those interested in being a vendor, call 980-202-2239 or pick up a packet from 600 North Long St.

Elmwood UMC

ELMWOOD — Elmwood United Methodist Church will hold their Brunswick stew fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 14 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. $7 for all you can eat includes stew, cornbread, crackers, dessert, tea or coffee. Take home prices: pint $7, quart $10, gallon $35.

Elmwood UMC is on Old Hwy. 70 just west of the Rowan-Iredell county line, on the north side of the highway.
