Rotary Club

The China Grove Rotary Club recently met to review the accomplishments of the past year, hold elections and to make plans for the future.

Rotary emphasis has always been "Service Above Self." Accordingly, the China Grove Rotary Club has reached out to and supported the local community through initiatives such as the funding of High School scholarships, providing dictionaries for schools, playground equipment donations and assistance to homeless persons.

The China Grove club, in concert with other district clubs, has also reached out to help those in need in other countries, including Peru, Hungary and the Ukraine. These overseas efforts were focused on areas such as the eradication of polio and malaria as well as enhancing good nutrition and improving the quality of drinking water.

The club was also recognized in 2009 for their high giving rate in the endowment fund.

During the meeting, Carol Brooke, a long time China Grove Rotarian, received the "Service Above Self" annual award in recognition for her outstanding individual efforts in civic, religious and worldwide work.

The new year ushers in Larry Brown as president elect for 2010-11, as well as Chris Beaver, Gilmer Boggs and Freida Richards as officers. Directors will be Chris Beaver, Harry Corriher, Jim Morton, Freida Richards and Ashley Roberts. Iota Psi

Poll
What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
