It's almost time for the Rowan County Fair

The Rowan County Agricultural and Industrial Fair begins Monday, Sept. 17 and runs through Saturday, Sept. 22. Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for seniors, $3 for children 6-12 and free for children under 6.
Tuesday and Wednesday are school days, with students admitted with a special ticket and 1 or two cans of food and school staff admitted with a special staff ticket and $4 or four cans of food. Wednesday and Friday are kindergarten/Head Start days, with free admission to exhibits and barns for those students.
Attractions at the fair include unlimited rides for a $20 wristband. Rides, by Powers Great American Midway, begin at 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and at 1 p.m. Saturday.
As always, there will be local vendors from Rowan County serving food. The Circle C Petting Farm will also be there daily starting at 4 p.m. and will feature several pig racing shows daily.
Michael Deker, world balloon champion, will perform daily on the stage. Check showtimes at the fairgrounds.
On Monday, fair-goers can bring in four cans of food to benefit Rowan Helping Ministries and receive free admission. Special Monday attractions include the junior ewe show at 6:15 p.m., the market goat show at 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, there will be a lamb dress-up at 4:45 and the beef cattle show will be at 5 p.m.
Wednesday, at 5 p.m. there is a market lamb show, with the sale following at 7:30 p.m. There will be figure 8 racing at 7 p.m.
Thursday at 6 p.m. is the county Jr. 4-H dog show.
Friday at 6 p.m. there is a cow dress-up contest; at 6:15 is a dairy goat show. At 8 p.m. the Demolition Derby begins.
Saturday, the dairy show is at 1 p.m. Rides open at 1 p.m.
The fairgrounds are located between I-85 and Old Concord Road on Julian Road, three miles south of Salisbury.
The exhibit building will open at 4 p.m. and close at 10 p.m. Rides operate at 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1 p.m.-11:30 p.m. Saturday. The livestock building will be open at 4 p.m.
