This Friday night, The Blue Vine will feature live Southern soul and more from 9 p.m to midnight with Gigi Dover & the Big Love (www.gigidover.com), back for their CD release party.

Gigi is a soulful, southern songstress and songwriter whose voice has been described as “sultry and steamy as a hot August night, as smooth and richly layered and textured as fine chocolate, or wine whichever you prefer.”

Eric Lovell brings his amazing guitar skills and back-up vocals into the mix with David "6" Clark on Bass and John Spurrier on Drums for what promises to be a memorable evening of music.

There will be no cover charge.

About the CD: “The Avocado Sessions — This Side & The Other:”

The first line of the first song says it all: “You just can’t put your finger on it.”

The Avocado Sessions is the title of the latest offering from Gigi Dover and the Big Love (Eric Lovell, guitars, etc; David Clark, bass; Jason Atkins, keys; John Spurrier, drums; Andrew Marcadis, percussion) and these 12 original cuts defy category. The quirky and confident collection ranges from jazzy funk in “Ode To Barry” to gypsy swing in “Paris” and a sitar-driven lament “A Better Place.” Not to mention the Klezmeresque and just-plain-fun “Skinny Minute.”

Americana favorite Gigi Dover is a native of Charlotte, claiming to be “born, bred and buttered in the South.” Her earlier recordings with The Rank Outsiders (Checkpoint, 1997, One Man’s Trash, 1995, Red Tape, 1994) and solo (Unpicked Flowers, 2002; Gigi, 2004) have garnered much praise.

Since 2004, Gigi has been touring the region with her husband/songwriter Eric Lovell on lead guitar and David Clark on bass. Gigi Dover and The Big Love released “Live 2-3-4-5” in 2005 and “Nouveau” in 2007, which reached #8 on the XM Americana Chart that year.

The new CD feels like the band’s very popular live show: a southern soul, swampy rock-n-roll experience. With that groovy sitar thrown in for good measure.
