The fifth “Faces of Abundant Living” portrait exhibit will open today at Waterworks Visual Arts Center with a public reception from 5 until 7 p.m. The exhibit includes 27 portraits in a variety of mediums created by 19 local artists.
“These portraits are moving and beautiful gifts, which families will cherish for many years to come and are evidence of the artists
’ amazing talent and philanthropic spirit,” said Barbara Garwood, executive director of Abundant Living Day Services.
“The exhibit allows us to literally put a face on those served by Abundant Living and increase community awareness of the help that is available to families facing the challenges of aging and disability.”
This year’s exhibit will be accompanied by a short life story of each subject written by Carol Dunkley, reminding viewers to look beyond the surface and realize the rich lives these people have led over the years.
Artists include Patt Legg, Janet Isenhour, Delores Medlin, Sharon Forthofer, Colleen Walton, Marietta Foster-Smith, Barbara Garwood, Frank Saunders, Mark Brincefield, Janie Allen, Ellen Phillips, Cathy Matthews, Sherry Culler, Grace Nicholson, Alee Johnson, Jimmy Alston, Adam Osborne, Kate Ritchie and Sean Meyers (photography).
Sponsors of the exhibit include Comfort Keepers, Summersett Funeral Home and Crematory, Innes Street Drug Company, F&M Bank, Smart Choice Senior Transitions, and Kathryn W. Terry.
Abundant Living Adult Day Services provides care to frail elderly and disabled adults in Rowan and nearby counties. A ministry of Lutheran Services for the Aging, Abundant Living is also a United Way agency. Located on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Salisbury, the program currently provides care to more than 50 families.
The portraits will remain on exhibit during regular gallery hours through Aug. 14 in the center’s second floor Delhaize Conference Room.
Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m, except for Thursdays, when the hours are extended through 7 p.m.
Saturday hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
