Garden writer coming to Literary Bookpost

Pam Beck of the town of Wake Forest, freelance garden writer, photographer,and popular lecturer, will be at Literary Bookpost on Friday, March 19, at 4 p.m. to sign copies of "Best Garden Plants for North Carolina," co-authored with Laura Peters.

"Best Garden Plants for North Carolina," published in 2006, has become one of a very few "go-to" gardening guides for newcomers to the Carolinas, for individuals new to the gardening experience and for the long-time gardener.

Beck has regularly published articles in Carolina Gardener Magazine since 1993 and currently writes for Wakefield and Wake Living magazines. A member of the Garden Writers Association of America, she wrote a garden column for the Raleigh News and Observer for five years.

Beck teaches residential landscaping for Wake Technical Community College, is a local garden scout for Better Homes and Gardens magazine and has served on the board of advisers for the J.C. Raulston Arboretum.

Beck will also be a speaker at the Salisbury Symphony Guild Garden Symposium on Saturday, March 20, at the Rowan Cooperative Extension Service office on Old Concord Road. in Salisbury.

Literary Bookpost will be on site at the symposium with books by Beck, other speakers at the symposium and additional books of interest to the gardening community.

Catawba College Events

Literary Bookpost will be at two Catawba College events this week to provide books for visiting authors. Leading up to and subsequent to the events, the authors' books will be available at Literary Bookpost, 110 S. Main St.

On Tuesday, Sarah Susanka will speak in a joint event sponsored by the Lilly Center for Vocation and Values and the Center for the Environment. Susanka will focus primarily on her 2007 book, "The Not So Big Life."

She will speak at 11 a.m. in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel and 7:30 p.m. in Hedrick Little Theatre of the Robertson College-Community Center at Catawba.

Literary Bookpost will have copies of that book, as well as copies of Susanka's array of other books. which began with "The Not So Big House," available for the book signing which will be held immediately after the 7:30 p.m. event in Hedrick Little Theater.

On Thursday, Elizabeth Berg will be the guest author for the annual Brady Author's Symposium. Berg is the author of more than 20 books, the most recent being "Home Safe," with a forthcoming book, "The Last Time I Saw You."

Literary Bookpost will be on site prior to and during the Symposium and book signing to follow with copies of Berg's books.
