Piedmont Airlines Day
SPENCER — The N.C. Transportation Museum will honor Winston-Salem based Piedmont Airlines Feb. 20 with "Piedmont Airlines Day".
The event will include a program with Carol Dobyns Fair, a flight attendant with Piedmont Airlines and US Airways for 47 years, as well as tours featuring the museum's Piedmont Airlines DC-3 and "The World Aloft" exhibit.
The DC-3 is currently in the Back Shop awaiting cosmetic restoration. The airplane is not regularly exhibited to visitors, giving those attending Piedmont Airlines Day a unique opportunity.
"The World Aloft" features Orville and Wilbur Wright's efforts to make powered flight known worldwide. A full size replica Wright Flyer, period artifacts, models and pieces of the original Wright Flyer with an amazing history of their own are displayed.
Piedmont Airlines Day begins at 1 p.m. in the Bob Julian Roundhouse Orientation Room. The event is free, but space is limited. Call 704-636-2889 ext. 232 for reservations.

Black History program
The Salisbury–Rowan Branch of the NAACP led by Dr. Bryant Norman Jr. and the Jubilee Choir will present a joint Black History Celebration at 4 p.m. Feb. 21, at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Caldwell Street.
Special guest is Lula Goolsby Williams, who will give a one-woman presentation of Harriet Tubman, a major figure in the abolitionist movement, and a conductor of the Underground Railroad..
Williams, a Mocksville native, has performed this role for more than 20 years. She is founder of the Harriet Tubman Memorial Library in Auburn, N.Y. and past curator of the Harriet Tubman Museum. She participated in the restoration of the Harriet Tubman Home as a historic site in the Western New York area.
She is an elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church where she currently serves as a member of the ministerial staff where her son, the Rev. Milton A. Williams Jr is senior pastor.
Sunday's performance also features Dr. Michael Connor, professor of Theater Arts, Livingstone College, who will present narrations of Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. DuBois, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Jubilee Choir will present music during the program. Kay Wright Norman is Music Director.
The program is free. An offering will be taken. Refreshments will follow in the fellowship hall.
Audition workshop
CONCORD — Old Courthouse Theatre is offering an audition seminar and workshop 7-9 p.m. Feb. 22 at 49 Spring Street NW in Concord. The workshop is for adults only.
The workshop will be presented by Phil Taylor, vice president of the OCT board of directors and a recent winner of The Outstanding Director award for the Metrolina Theatre Association for last year's production of "Benedictions."
Information on auditions for Old Courthouse Theatre's next production "Boys Next Door" will also be covered. Reservations are not required. The workshop is free.
Fort Dobbs
STATESVILLE — On the evening of Feb. 27, visitors can experience a harrowing night as it was 250 years ago when Cherokee warriors attacked Fort Dobbs. A special evening living history program will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Visitors will listen to the narrative of the battle by lantern light as the sounds of Cherokee warriors and gun fire fill the air.
According to Site Manager Beth Hill, "Visitors will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to be at a site 250 years to the day and time where the struggle for America took place between Cherokee, provincial soldiers and settlers."
The evening program is part of Fort Dobbs' living history weekend, Feb. 27-28. Costumed interpreters portraying provincial soldiers and Cherokee warriors will present musket and cannon firing demonstrations, and demonstrations of 18th Century military and American-Indian camp life. The Cherokee's perspective on the war will be discussed Saturday and a talk on clothing supplied to American Indians through trade will be offered Sunday.

Civil War Show
The Central North Carolina Relic Hunters will hold their 18th annual Civil War Show Feb. 27-28 at the Holiday Inn on Jake Alexander Boulevard Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Admission is $5 for adults and free for children under 12.
Featured will be buttons, buckles, guns, swords, paper money, coins, documents and period jewelry.

Night on the Stage
Piedmont Players Theatre will hold their annual Night on the Stage fundraiser at 6 p.m., March 5 and 6, at the Meroney Theater.
The evening includes a reception, silent auction, dinner on the stage by Chef Santos, a raffle for a chance to win a trip to New York City, and entertainment by singer-songwriter and musician Mike Cross.
Event sponsors are Edward and Susan Norvell, Mary Messinger, Bill and Shari Graham, Hayes and Susan Smith, Tony and Jeannie Misenheimer, Alice Ketcham and Food Lion Inc.

Newcomers Club
The Salisbury Rowan Newcomers Club's annual Luncheon, Fashion Show, Card and Game Party is on Wednesday, March 3 at 11:30 a.m. at the Civic Center.
All proceeds benefit Rowan Helping Ministries and the Women's Crisis Center. The luncheon will be catered by Matt Trexler of Creative Catering, fashions are by Christopher & Banks and C.J. Banks and music by Phoebe Beard. Door prizes are from local merchants and there will be a drawing for an original work of art by Sharon Forthofer of Tanglewood Brushstrokes.

Comedian in Concord
CONCORD — Comedian and pianist Billy D. Washington brings his routine to the Davis Theatre in Concord, March 6, at 8 p.m.
His original songs, parodies and comedy routine have been featured on HBO's "Aspen Comedy Festival" and "Def Comedy Jam," Comedy Central's "Premium Blend," BET's "Comic View" the "Late, Late Show" with Craig Ferguson and "Last Comic Standing."
