Anthony "Tony" S. Abbott will visit Literary Bookpost for a poetry reading on Thursday, with the event beginning at 7 p.m.
Abbott will read from his newly released collection, "New and Selected Poems, 1989-2009," released in January from Lorimer Press in Davidson.
Abbott was born in San Francisco and educated at Fay School in Massachusetts and the Kent School in Connecticut. He received his A.B. from Princeton University and his Ph.D from Harvard University. Abbott is professor emeritus of English at Davidson College.
His first novel, "Leaving Maggie Hope," was published in 2003 and received the Novello Literary Award, among other awards. The novel's sequel, "The Three Great Secret Things," was published in 2007. He is the author of five books of poetry, including the Pulitzer Prize-nominated "The Girl in the Yellow Raincoat."
Abbott has been a guest at Literary Bookpost several times over the past 12 years, often drawing record crowds for his delightful readings of both his prose and poetry. It is not unknown for him to be present when other writers and poets are at the Bookpost to read, as he is a constant supporter of the literary arts within the state.
Abbott's reading will be followed by a book signing for "New and Selected Poems 1989 – 2009" as well as his previous books of poetry and his novels. There will also be a reception with light refreshments.
