Night of Swing and Jazz to benefit Rowan Helping Ministries

What’s better than a night of swing and jazz?

Giving to Rowan Helping Ministries while enjoying a night of swing and jazz.

For the third year in a row, Lonnie Carpenter is organizing a concert to benefit Rowan Helping Ministries.

“A Night of Swing and Jazz” is set for 7:30, Friday, Jan. 20 at Catawba College’s Keppel Auditorium. Performing will be The Brubakers and the Salisbury Swing Band, both featuring Carpenter.

There will be a wide range of music to appeal to people of all ages, Carpenter says, including 40s and 50s favorites, as well as beach music and rock and roll.

Carpenter believes that the concert will appeal to those people who don’t typically get out to clubs.

Besides the musicians, there will be swing dancers on stage demonstrating the Lindy, Carpenter says.

Glenn Yost will also be on hand to do magic in the lobby before the concert, and Morgan Ridge Vineyards will sell wine.

The concert has raised about $8,000 for Rowan Helping Ministries over the past two years, Carpenter says.

“I just want to do my part,” he says. “We could all need (RHM) tomorrow.”

Tickets will be available at the door, with no pre-sales and no reserved seating.

Adult tickets are $20; tickets for those under 18 are $5.
